Connect your domain
To send email from your own address, such as hello@news.yourshop.in, your domain needs a few DNS records. Sharp Sent shows you each one under Settings, then Sending domain. You copy them into the place where your domain is managed. It takes about ten minutes.
A tip before you start: use a subdomain
Use a subdomain like news.yourshop.in rather than yourshop.in itself. It keeps your marketing email separate from your everyday email, and the records never touch the ones your website or your office mailbox already use.
Where is your domain managed?
It is the company you bought the domain from, or the one that hosts its DNS. Pick yours below. If yours is not listed, the steps are almost the same: find DNS records, add a record, paste what Sharp Sent shows.
Cloudflare
What to click
- Sign in to Cloudflare and click your domain.
- Open DNS, then Records.
- Click Add record.
- Choose the Type shown below, then paste the Name and the Target or Content (and the Priority for the MX record). Leave TTL on Auto.
- For CNAME records, set Proxy status to DNS only (grey cloud), then click Save. Repeat for each record.
Good to know
- Every CNAME record we ask for must be DNS only (a grey cloud). If the cloud is orange, email authentication will fail.
- Cloudflare accepts the short name or the full name. It shows the short name after saving.
- Cloudflare answers quickly: records usually appear within a minute or two.
GoDaddy
What to click
- Sign in to GoDaddy and open My Products.
- Next to your domain, click DNS (or Manage DNS).
- Click Add New Record.
- Choose the Type shown below, paste the Host and the Value, and leave TTL as it is.
- Click Save, then repeat for each record.
Good to know
- In GoDaddy the Host field takes only the part before your domain name. Do not paste your domain at the end.
- GoDaddy uses @ for the bare domain itself. None of our records need it.
- Do not add a full stop at the end of a value; GoDaddy adds it for you.
- For the MX record, put the number in the Priority box and only the server name in the Value box.
Hostinger
What to click
- Sign in to Hostinger hPanel and open Domains, then your domain.
- Click DNS / Nameservers, then DNS records.
- In the Add record box, choose the Type shown below.
- Paste the Name and the Value (and the Priority for the MX record). Leave TTL as it is.
- Click Add record, then repeat for each record.
Good to know
- In Hostinger the Name field takes only the part before your domain name.
- Hostinger may already have a record with the same name. Delete the old one first if it shows a conflict error.
- Changes can take a few minutes to appear.
Then check
Keep Settings, then Sending domain, open. It looks for your records by itself every few seconds and shows which ones it has found. Most appear within a few minutes. Some providers take up to an hour. You do not need to press anything while you wait; when every record is found, your domain is ready.
Someone else looks after your domain?
On the same page, choose Send to my developer. You get a link to pass on. It shows the records and the steps, needs no sign-in, shows nothing else about your account, and stops working after 7 days.
