Import your customer list
You can bring a list from Excel, Google Sheets or any CSV file. All we need is a column of email addresses, and it does not matter what that column is called. It takes a few minutes.
Three steps
- Get your file ready. Open your customer list in Excel or Google Sheets and save it as an Excel (.xlsx) or CSV file. One column needs to hold the email addresses. It can have any heading, or none at all. A name, a birthday and an anniversary are optional. Not sure how it should look? Download the sample sheet from the import page.
- Upload it and check. In Sharp Sent, open Audiences, then Import contacts, and choose your file. We find the email column for you. If we picked the wrong one, change it. Before anything is imported we show how many addresses look good, how many are not email addresses, and how many are already suppressed.
- Say how they joined and import. Choose how these people joined, write what they agreed to in a few words, and tick the box to confirm they agreed to hear from your business and that you did not buy, rent or scrape the list. You can also type a tag in the “Tag everyone in this file (optional)” box, such as VIP or Diwali, to find these people again and send to just them later. Then import. When it finishes you see how many people were added.
What to write for consent
Write it the way the person would have seen it, in your own words. For example: Ticked the offers box on our website form. Or: Gave their number and email at the shop counter and agreed to hear about offers.
We keep this wording, the time and your IP address with every person in the file. It is your proof that they agreed.
Good to know
- Only import people who agreed to hear from your business. We do not allow bought, rented or scraped lists.
- Pasting works for up to 50 addresses. For more, upload a file.
- Anyone who unsubscribed, complained or bounced before is skipped for you.
- Shared mailboxes such as info@ and sales@, misspelled domains and throwaway email services are skipped, and listed so you can check them.
- If more than one in ten addresses in a file look risky, our team looks at the list before it is imported, and we email you.
